Experience an exciting and adventurous Canadian bear hunt in the wilderness of Alberta. Alberta is home to an enormous population of black bears, and every year, hunters with our outfitter harvest some of the province's largest black bears.
We work with a reliable outfitter offering traditional black bear hunting in the northwestern part of Alberta, Canada, an area with a dense population of black bears.
The northern half and western edge of Alberta boast an excellent black bear population. Black bears can be hunted both in spring and fall. Additionally, black bears are often active throughout the day, providing exciting and successful hunting experiences. Alongside the classic black phase, a high proportion of bears in Alberta display other color phases, including cinnamon, chocolate, and blonde, which are commonly encountered during the hunt.
Hunting Areas and Conditions
Our hunting areas are located in Alberta's northern forest region, extending across the northern part of the province. The southern boundary of the hunting area borders a large military base (12,000 square kilometers) where hunting is prohibited. This creates a natural influx of wildlife from the protected zone into the hunting territories.
The terrain includes diverse forests, large open oilfields, newly logged areas, and elevated regions. In the hunting area, hunters are transported using Argo ATVs, regular ATVs, UTVs, and 4x4 vehicles, depending on the terrain. Hunts take place in open clearings, oilfields, and along old forest and transport roads, which are often lush with fresh grass and young vegetation – a favorite food source for bears in the spring.
The lodge is situated at Winefred Lake, renowned for offering some of the world’s best fishing for pike and walleye.
Black bear hunting is an action-filled and thrilling experience. It’s the perfect activity for the serious trophy hunter or for families seeking a wilderness adventure that combines exciting hunting with ample fishing opportunities as a bonus.
The hunt is exclusively conducted as a spot-and-stalk hunt. Hunters and guides traverse the vast hunting area using 4x4 vehicles and ATVs, spotting bears and then beginning the intense stalk on foot to get within shooting range.
Do not expect luxury in the camp. Instead, embrace it as a true wilderness experience. Meals in the camp typically consist of sandwiches or simple ready-to-eat meals prepared over an open fire, which can sometimes feel repetitive.
Temperatures in May range from 0 to 20 degrees Celsius, and it is recommended to bring warm, windproof clothing.
