Distribution: From Columbia, Venezuela and Brazil and southwards to Paraguay and northeastern Argentina.
Habitat: Swampy and mountainous tropical forests.
Description: Characteristic tapir, reminiscent of Baird's Tapir measuring up to 1 meter over the shoulder, reaching a total body length of around 2 meters. General colour rufous brown to greyish rufous brown, with a short mane.
