Scientific Name: Capricornis sumatraensis
Subspecies: 11 subspecies have been described, 8 of which occur in the Indo-pacific region: 1. Capricornis s. sumatraensis: Sumatra. 2. Capricornis s. rubidus: Southern Myanmar. 3. Capricornis s. maritimus: Vietnam, Laos and Kampuchea. 4. Capricornis s. annectens: Southwest Thailand. 5. Capricornis s. swettenhami: Malaysia. 6. Capricornis s. rodoni: India: Eastern Punjab. 7. Capricornis s. montinus: Western Yunnan and northern Myanmar. 8. Capricornis s. jamrachi: India, Nepal and Kashmir.
Habitat: Forest and shrubby areas with rocks. Also found in mountains up to 2.700 meters.
Description: Antelope-like animal related to the Chamois. It weighs up to 100 kg and measures up to 1,05 m over the shoulder. It may reach a total body length of 1,40 m without tail (12 cm). General colour brown. The horns are heavy and ringed and bent backwards.
