Scientific Name: Naemorhaedus goral

Subspecies: A total of 6 subspecies have been described, all of which occur in the Holarctic-Asian region, 1 subspecies occur also in the Indo-pacific region: 1. Naemorhaedus g. goral: Kashmir and Nepal. 2. Naemorhaedus g. hodgsoni: Eastern Nepal and Sikkim. 3. Naemorhaedus g. baileyi: Eastern Xizang (Tibet). 4. Naemorhaedus g. griseus: Sichuan, Yunnan, Burma and northern Thailand (see also Indo-pacific region) 5. Naemorhaedus g. arnouxianus: Hubei and central China. 6. Naemorhaedus g. caudatus: Shanxi, northern China, Manchuria and the Amur region of Russia.

Habitat: Mountainous forests and bush areas with rocks up to 2.700 m.

Description: Chamois-sized animal weighing up to 42 kg and measuring up to 80 cm over the shoulder. It reaches a total body length of 1,25 m without tail (40 cm). General colour light brown. The horns are ridged and bend slightly backwards.

Hunting method: Stalking, lying in wait, with beaters.
