Scientific Name: Selenarctos thibetanus
Subspecies: 7 subspecies are described, one of which occur in this region: Burma Black Bear (Selenarctos th. thibetanus).
Distribution: Assam, Myanmar, Thailand, Kampuchia, Laos, Vietnam and Malaysia.
Habitat: Shrubby areas and broadleaf forests, up to the tree-line at 3.500 m outside the confines of the Indopacific region.
Description: Medium sized bear weighing up to 150 kg and measuring up to 70 cm over the shoulder. It reaches a total body length of 2 meters without tail (10 cm). General colour black.
Hunting method: Stalking, from a hide.
