Roan

Scientific Name: Hippotragus equinus

Subspecies: 6 subspecies are recognised but we have chosen only to describe those that are available for trophy hunting at present. East African Roan (Hippotragus e. langheldi) Western Roan (Hippotragus e. koda)

Distribution: Southern Roan: South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana. East African Roan: Tanzania and Kenya. Western Roan: From mid-western African States to CAR and Cameroun.

Habitat: Open bush and grassland

Description: Large antelope with a shoulderheight of ca. 150 cm and a weight of upt to 300 kg. General colour from dark rufous to light reddish fawn (roan) with contrasted black and white markings on head. The horns are similar to those of the Sable Antelope, but smaller. The Roan is easily recognised by its very long, pointed ears, tufted at their tip.

Hunting method: Pursch or stalking with trackers.

Hunting available in: South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Tanzania, Cameroun, CAR and Chad.
