Scientific Name: Oreamnos americanus
Subspecies: Four subspecies have been described, but due to the uncertainty of their individual status, we do not include them here.
Distribution: Alaska, from Cook Inlet to the border with Yukon, southwestwards to Mackenzie, southwards to western Montana (USA). Has been introduced on the Kodiak Islands (Alaska) and in the Olympic National Park near Seattle (Washington, USA).
Habitat: Steep-sided valleys and rocky mountains, often near the snowline (alpine and sub-alpine).
Description: Middle-sized mountain goat, with a snowy white, thick coat and beard. The horns are small and bend slightly backwards.
Hunting method: Stalking.
