Scientific Name: Neofelis nebulosa
Subspecies: 4 subspecies have been described: 1. Neofelis n. nebulosa: Southwest China, Hainan, Laos, Kampuchea, northern Thailand and northern Vietnam. 2. Neofelis n. macrosceloides: From Nepal to Myanmar. 3. Neofelis n. brachyurus: Taiwan. 4. Neofelis n. diardi: Southern Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo.
Habitat: Dense, evergreen forest in lowlands and hills, including swamps and areas with tall grass.
Description: Medium sized cat weighing up to 23 kg and measuring up to 80 cm over the shoulder. It may reach a total body length of 1 meter without tail (90 cm). General colour ashy grey to greyish brown with large, dark, round or oval markings on the body. The markings are smaller on the underparts and the chest and face.
Hunting method: Intercepting a trail, usually lying in wait near a mountain pass or traps.
