Scientific Name: Panthera pardus

Distribution: All of Africa south of Sahara.
Habitat: All types of terrain (even outskirts of inhabitet areas)
Description: Unmistakable. A big cat, with very elegant shape reaching a weight of 60 - 90 kg and a shoulder height of around 70 cm. The body is long with comparatively short, stout legs. Coat dense and soft, marked with numerous black spots, on a buff or yellowish-tawny ground colour. Tail long and spotted. Leopards hunt entirely by night, springing on their prey either from a hide in a tree or from on a rock. The victiom is generally seized by the neck and the backbone broken at this level. If the leopard does not finish its prey, it may return up to several times to the spot, untill the prey is eaten, or it may drag the victim into a tree to hide it.
Hunting method: Pursch or hunting from a hide by usage of bait. Some places hunted with the aid of a dog.
