Scientific Name: Muntiacus reevesi

Distribution: Southern China. (Introduced into southern England at the turn of the century).
Habitat: Dense undergrowth.
Description: Small deer weighing up to 12 kg and measuring up to 46 cm over the shoulder. It reaches a total body length of 85 cm without tail. General colour reddish brown in summer and greyish brown in winter. The face has black stripes extending from the base of the antlers down the forehead, almost joining up at the base of the nose. The antlers are very small. The male has prolonged upper canines.
