Scientific Name: Sus verrucosus
Subspecies: 1. Sus v. verrucosus: Java. 2. Sus v. celebensis: Celebes, Borneo and bordering islands.
Habitat: Tropical jungle, primary and secondary. Often found in coconut plantations, where the animal eats the fallen coconuts.
Description: Large pig weighing up to 185 kg and measuring up to 80 cm over the shoulder. It may reach a total body length of up to 160 cm. General colour greyish brown to almost black. The sides of the cheeks have beardlike hairs. The male has prolonged canines.
Hunting method: Stalking, with beaters and dogs.
