Scientific Name: Capricornis crispus
Subspecies: 2 subspecies, 1 of which occur in this region: Capricornis c. crispus.
Distribution: Japan (Hondo, Shikoku, Kiushiu).
Habitat: Forests and shrubby regions with rocks, mountains up to 2.700 m.
Description: Antelope-like animal related to the Chamois. It weighs up to 95 kg and measures up to 1.05 m over the shoulder, reaching a total body length of 1,40 m without tail (12 cm). General colour brown. The horns point upwards and slightly backwards and are ridged.
Hunting method: Stalking, lying in wait. The local people use traps, snares and pitfalls.
