Scientific Name: Capra pyrenaica
Subspecies: Capra p. hispanica. Capra p. victoriae, Capra p lusitania.
Distribution: Spain.
Habitat: Mountains.
Description: Middle sized animal of the goat family with a compact body and long, strong legs. The Spanish Ibex weighs around 80 kg, and measures up to 75 cm over the shoulder. General colour brown with black and white markings on the legs and underparts. The horns are long and heavy varying in shape from subspecies to subspecies. The subspecies from Gredos has lyreshaped horns, while some of the other subspecies have horns that curve outwards. All horns have distinct transverse knobs throughout their length, however. Both sexes have horns but the male carries the biggest.
