Scientific Name: Cervus eldi
Subspecies: 1. Cervus e. eldi: Manipur in Assam (India). 2. Cervus e. thamin: Myanmar, western Thailand and Tenasserim. 3. Cervus e. siamensis: Central Thailand, Laos, Kampuchea, western Vietnam and the Hainan Islands.
Habitat: Open grassland, swamps and deciduous forest, always close to water.
Description: Medium sized deer weighing up to 120 kg and measuring up to 1,20 m over the shoulder. It may reach a total body length of 1,70 m without tail ( 15 cm). General colour brown.
Hunting method: Formerly with beaters. Today Eld’s Deer is protected by law in all areas of distribution
