Scientific name: Anas capensis
Distribution: The Cape Teal is widespread in South Africa, being most numerous in the drier regions of South Africa such as the Western Cape, North-West and Free State Provinces.
Habitat: It mainly lives in large open areas of freshwater and wet grasslands with emergent vegetation. It largely lives off aquatic plants, and is normally found in water that is less than 1.5m in depth.
Description: The Cape Teal is similar to the Redbilled Teal in appearance. It is light grey with light spots and marks over its back. It can be be identified by its pink bill and reddish eyes. It is a fast flying duck, that will present a challenge to any hunter.
