Scientific Name: Speothus venaticus
Subspecies: A total of 3 subspecies have been described, but will not be mentioned below due to uncertainty of their status.
Distribution: Panama, eastwards to French Guyana, Brazil, eastern Peru, northern Bolivia and northern Argentina.
Habitat: Tropical rainforest, savanna, marshes and swamps.
Description: Small, plump doglike animal with very short ears. General colour rufous brown, paws and tail dark brown.
Hunting method: With snares (mainly hunted by the locals).
Hunting available in: Not really regarded as a game species.
