Siberian Roe Deer

Scientific Name: Capreolus pygargus

Subspecies: Two subspecies: 1. Sibirian Roe Deer (Capreolus p. pygargus): Russia: From Ural to southern Siberia, northern Altai and Tienshan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, eastern- and southeastern China to Sichuan and Korea. 2. Manchurian Roe Deer (Capreolus p. bedfordi): The Amur-Ussuri region southwards to eastern and southern China, Butan?

Habitat: Open woodland with grassland, mountain forests with open grassland, shrubby areas. In summer up to 3.000 m. above sea-level (Tienshan).

Description: Large deer weighing up to 60 kg (the subspecies Capreolus p. pygargus is the heaviest). It measures up to 1 m. over the shoulder and reaches a total body length of 1,50 m. General colour similar to that of Roe Deer. The antlers are larger and heavier than those of the European Roe Deer.

Hunting method: Stalking, on horseback, with beaters and dogs.

Hunting available in: Western Siberia, Kazakhstan, Transbaikal and Altai.
